TEACHING NOTES FROM DENNIS EVANS – MAY 16, 2026
BaMidbar (Numbers) 1:1-4:20 | Hoshe’ah (Hosea) 2:1-22 | Tehillah (Psalm) 122 | Hitgalut (Revelation) 7:1-17; (Luke) 16:1-17:10
Demonstration: count the play money, in exaggeration of wealth, while reciting the poem “Sing a song of sixpence” a pocket full of rye, four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie. When the pie was opened the birds began to sing – wasn’t that a dainty dish to set before the king. “The king was in his counting house, counting out his money; the queen was in the parlor eating bread and honey; the maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes; along came a blackbird and snipped off her nose. – “Sing a song of sixpence”. – Mother Goose 1744.
Everybody knows that money is root of all evil; right, no?
LOVE is the motivation, by which we sacrifice our time, our labor, and our money. Hope is where we focus our faith (emunah) er go what you place your trust in, is what you love and for which you make sacrifice. Therefore, Yeshua told us to,
Mt 6:19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Your love (heart) will be where your treasure (what you value) is located.
Taking a Census; the motivation of love
BaMidbar Chapter 1: 1 And יהוה spoke unto Moshe in the wilderness (a place of unknowns) of Sinai, in the Ohel Mo’ed, on the first day of the second khodesh, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Mitzrayim.
Ergo, they left Mitzrayim on the first day of the second month of the year; probably sometime in May, during the counting of the Omar and certainly after Pasach.
What must the Jews have been wondering in the wilderness of wondering; a place of unknowns. The wilderness is defined by doubts. Doubts must have been swirling around the camp fires and rumors circulating among the doubters, after two years since leaving Mitzrayim.
2 “Take the sum of all the assembly of B’nei Yisra’el, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male, by their polls (their “heads”.); 3 from twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Yisra’el: you
shall number them by their hosts, even you and Aharon. (When Israel refused the promised land, all those from twenty years and up were condemned.)
The accounting of resources is all about emunah – trust, in Elohim or emunah in our resources. Trust in what we cannot see or trust in what is in our hand right now.
A census, or an accounting, was both good and evil based upon intent and command. David took a census, with the intent to establish faith in his own strength. Moshe took a census at the command of Elohim, to establish administration.
Do you take an accounting of your resources that you may feel confident in the future or to administer your resources wisely and effectively, as an offering to Elohim for good. Remember, your sense of relief on paydays, when your bills were all paid and you had a little left over?
Mt 19:23 ¶ Then said Yeshua unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. (because he trusts in his riches and not in Elohim)
Lu 12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, (self-talk is where sin festers; the command comes from “I”; not from Elohim.)
Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, (we are never commanded to take our “ease”; but to work for the day comes when no man can work.)
eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But Elohim said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? (Do you live, as though,”this night your soul will be required of you?)
21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward Elohim. (KEY: be rich toward Elohim)
The bad example of king David: 2 Sa 24:1 ¶ And again the anger of Yewah was kindled against Israel, and he moved (who moved?) David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.
2 For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people. 3 And Joab said unto the king, Now Yewah thy Elohim add unto the people, how many soever they be, a hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it (to quiet your fears): but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing (it is a thing of doubt, in Yewah)?
Didn’t Yewah tell David to number the people?
Isa 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of Yewah, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. (interpret scripture with scripture.) A second recording of the same event:
1Ch 21:1 ¶ And HaSatan stood up against Israel, and (he) provoked (seduced) David to number Israel.
2 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. (have confidence in it.)
3 And Joab answered, Yewah make his people a hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?
4 Notwithstanding the king’s word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
Jas 1:13 ¶ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of Elohim: for Elohim cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempts he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Yewah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Is the gift you consider good and perfect?
A New Census in the days of accounting
Hitgalut Chapter 7
1 And after these things, I saw four Malakhim standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth nor on the sea nor on any tree.
No wind = no pollination = no food.
2 And I saw another Malakh, and he ascended from the direction of the rising sun (east), having the seal of the living Elohim; (Rev 14) and he cried with a loud voice to the four Malakhim to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, saying, 3 “Do not hurt the earth, neither the sea nor the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our Elohim upon their foreheads.” 4 And I heard the number of those who were sealed; and it was a hundred and forty-four thousand, of all the tribes of B’nei Yisra’el.
- :5 Of the tribe of Yehudah were sealed twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Re’uven, twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand;
- 6 of the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Naftali, twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Menasheh, twelve thousand;
- 7 Of the tribe of Shimon, twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Issakhar, twelve thousand;
- 8 of the tribe of Zevulun, twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Yosef, twelve thousand;
- of the tribe of Binyamin, twelve thousand.
REV 7:9 After these things, I beheld, and lo, a great multitude which no man could number, of every nation, and people, and kindred, and tongue stood before the throne and in the presence of HaSeh, clothed with white robes and with palms in their hands, 10 and cried with a loud voice, saying, “Yeshua[h] (salvation) belongs to our Elohim, who sits upon the throne, and to HaSeh.”
11 And all the Malakhim stood round about the throne and about the elders and the four creatures, and fell before His throne on their faces, and worshiped Elohim, 12 saying, “Amein! Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might to our Elohim forever and ever. Amein!”
13 And one of the Z’kenim answered, saying to me, “Who are these who are arrayed in white robes? And from where did they come?” 14 And I said to him, “My Adon, you know.” And he said to me, “These are those who came out of HaTzarah HaG’dolah, and have
- washed their robes and made them white in the blood of HaSeh. 15 Therefore they are before the throne of Elohim, and serve Him day and night in His Heikhal; and he who sits on the throne shall shelter them.
- (16) They shall hunger no more,
- neither thirst anymore;
- neither shall they be stricken by the sun nor by the heat.
17 For HaSeh who is in the midst of the throne shall shepherd (feed) them and shall lead them to fountains of Mayim Khayim. And Elohim shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
A Census that cannot be numbered
Looking beyond the sins of Israel we see the future unified Israel.
Hoshe’ah Chapter 1:10 “Yet the number of B’nei Yisra’el shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that, instead of that which was said unto them, ‘You are not My people’, it shall be said unto them, ‘You are the children of the living Elohim.’
Who is a Jew?
Ro 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Ro 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. 23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. 24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? 25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Eph 2:11 ¶ Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 ¶ For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Hoshe’ah Chapter 1:11) And B’nei Yehudah and B’nei Yisra’el shall be gathered together (all the tribes), and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall go up out of the land; for great shall be the day of Yizre’el. (Yom Se Israel)
The Joy of Family
Tehillah (Psalm) 122 1 I rejoiced when they said unto me, “Let us go unto Beit ” יהוה. 2 (song) Our feet are standing within your gates, O Yerushalayim; 3 Yerushalayim, that is built as a city that is compact together; 4 Where the tribes went up, even the tribes of יהוה , as a testimony unto Yisra’el, to give thanks unto the Name of יהוה. 5 For there were set thrones for judgment, the thrones of Beit David. 6 Pray for the shalom of Yerushalayim; may they prosper that love you. 7 May Shalom be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces. 8 For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, “Shalom be within you.” 9 For the sake of Beit יהוה our Elohim I will seek your good.
“Up to Jerusalem song”
Leverage, in the time of crisis
Luka Chapter 16 1 And He spoke a mashal to His Talmidim, saying,
“There was a rich man who had a steward, and they accused him that he was wasting his wealth. 2 So his master called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear concerning you? Give me an account of your stewardship; for no longer can you be a steward for me.’ 3 Then the steward said to himself, ‘What will I do? For my Adon will take away from me the stewardship. I cannot dig, and I am ashamed to beg. 4 Now I know what I will do so that when I leave the stewardship, they will receive me in their houses.’
5 And he called his Adon’s debtors, one by one, and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my Adon?’ 6 He said to him, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your note; sit down quickly, and write fifty measures.’
7 And he said to another, ‘And you, what do you owe to my Adon?’ He said to him, ‘One hundred bushels of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your note, and sit down and write eighty bushels.’ 8 And Adoneinu praised the unjust steward because he had done wisely; for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light. (which is why the children of the light MUST depend on the shepherd of light to provide for them.) 9 And I also say to you, (command) use this earthly wealth, however acquired, to make friends, so that when it is gone, they will receive you and you will have everlasting habitation. 10 He who is faithful with little is also faithful with much; and he who is dishonest with little is also dishonest with much.
Mt 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Luka Chapter 16: 11 If, therefore, you are not faithful with the wealth of iniquity, who will believe that there is any truth in you? 12 And if you are not found faithful with that which is not your own, who will give you that which is your own? 13 No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and like the other; or he will honor one and despise the other. You cannot serve Elohim and wealth.”
So, should believers become wealthy?
AXIOM: the reason to gain wealth is empower you to do good.
Wealth is the property of Yewah and we are His assigned administrators if so be that we administer His wealth wisely.
14 When the P’rushim heard all these things, because they loved money, they ridiculed Him. 15 But Yeshua said to them, “You are the ones who make yourselves righteous before men; but Elohim knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is disgusting in the presence of Elohim.
19 “There was a rich man, who used to wear purple and fine linen, and every day he made merry, very lavishly. 20 And there was a poor man named Elazar, who was laid down at that rich man’s door, afflicted with boils; 21 he longed to fill his stomach with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. The dogs also came and licked his boils.
The poor and infirmed are given to us to expose our wickedness and injustice.
22 Now it happened that the poor man died, and the Malakhim carried him into Avraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.
23 And while he was tormented in She’ol, he lifted up his eyes from a distance, and saw Avraham with Elazar in his bosom. 24 And he called in a loud voice, saying, ‘O my father Avraham, have mercy on me and send Elazar to dip his finger in water and wet my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’
He thought that Lazarus was still a servent.
25 Avraham said to him, ‘My son, remember, you received your pleasures when you were living, and Elazar his hardships; and behold now he is comfortable here, and you are suffering. 26 Besides all these things, a great gulf is fixed between us and you, so that those who wish to cross over from here to you cannot, neither from there to cross over to us.’ 27 He said to him, ‘If that is so, I beseech you, O my father, to send him to my father’s house;
28 for I have five brothers. Let him go and testify to them so that they may not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Avraham said to him, ‘They have Moshe and the Nevi’im; let them hear them.’
30 But he said to him, ‘No, my father Avraham; but if only a man from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 Avraham said to him, ‘If they will not hear Moshe and the Nevi’im, even if a man rises from the dead, they will not believe in Him.’”
Lk 12:21 “So, is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward Elohim.”
And so, it is with them that put their trust in riches.
The wedding of Yewah Yeshua does not occur, until AFTER the resurrection, when all Israel shall be saved.
Ro 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
The Gentiles are invited to the reception; but not to the wedding; the 10 virgins were waiting for the bridegroom to follow him to the reception; but they were not the bride.
Who or what is the bride?
Re 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Mt 22:1 ¶ And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how came thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Were the guests the bride, or the wedding party?
Mt 25:1 ¶ Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Were the five righteous virgins the bride, or were they in the bridal party?
Re 21:9 ¶ And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.
Re 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: 4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. 5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Joh 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Joh 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
Was John the immerser the bride or the friend of the bridegroom?
