B'reshit Chapter 23
1 And the life of Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah. 2 And Sarah died in Kiriyat Arba, the same is Khevron, in the land of Kena'an; and Avraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her. 3 And Avraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke unto the children of Khet, saying, 4 "I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight." 5 And the children of Khet answered Avraham, saying unto him, 6 "Hear us, My Adon: you are a mighty prince among us; in the choice of our sepulchres bury your dead; none of us shall withhold from you his tomb, but that you may bury your dead." 7 And Avraham rose up, and bowed down to the people of the land, even to the children of Khet. 8 And he spoke with them, saying, "If it is your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Efron Ben Tzokhar, 9 that he may give me the cave of Makhpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field; for the full price let him give it to me in the midst of you for a possession of a burying-place." 10 Now Efron was sitting in the midst of the children of Khet; and Efron the Khiti answered Avraham in the hearing of the children of Khet, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, 11 "Nay, My Adon, hear me: the field I give you, and the cave that is therein, I give it to you; in the presence of the sons of my people I give it to you; bury your dead." 12 And Avraham bowed down before the people of the land. 13 And he spoke unto Efron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, "But if you will, I pray, hear me: I will give the price of the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there." 14 And Efron answered Avraham, saying unto him, 15 "My Adon, hearken unto me: a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and you? Bury therefore your dead." 16 And Avraham hearkened unto Efron; and Avraham weighed to Efron the silver, which he had named in the hearing of the children of Khet, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant. 17 So the field of Efron, which was in Makhpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the border thereof round about, were made sure 18 unto Avraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Khet, before all that went in at the gate of his city. 19 And after this, Avraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Makhpelah before Mamre, the same is Khevron, in the land of Kena'an. 20 And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Avraham for a possession of a burying-place by the children of Khet.

B'reshit Chapter 24
1 And Avraham was old, well stricken in age; and יהוה had blessed Avraham in all things. 2 And Avraham said unto his servant, the elder of his house, that ruled over all that he had, "Put, I pray, your hand under my thigh. 3 And I will make you swear by יהוה , Elohim of heaven and Elohim of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Kena'ani, among whom I dwell. 4 But you shall go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son, even for Yitz'khak." 5 And the servant said unto him, "Perhaps the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land; must I needs bring your son back unto the land from whence you came?" 6 And Avraham said unto him, "Beware that you bring not my son back there. 7 יהוה , the Elohim of heaven, who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my nativity, and who spoke unto me, and who swore unto me, saying, 'Unto your seed will I give this land,' He will send His Malakh before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. 8 And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this my oath; only you shall not bring my son back there." 9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Avraham his Adon, and swore to him concerning this matter. 10 And the servant took ten camels, of the camels of his Adon, and departed; having all goodly things of his Adon's in his hand; and he arose, and went to Aram Naharayim, unto the city of Nakhor. 11 And he made the camels to kneel down without the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water. 12 And he said, "O יהוה , Elohim of my Adon Avraham, send me, I pray, good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Avraham. 13 Behold, I stand by the fountain of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water. 14 So let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, 'Let down your pitcher, I pray, that I may drink;' and she shall say, 'Drink, and I will give your camels drink also;' let the same be she that You have appointed for Your servant, even for Yitz'khak; and thereby shall I know that You have shown kindness unto my Adon." 15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking that behold, Rivkah came out, who was born to Betu'el Ben Milkah, the wife of Nakhor, Avraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder. 16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her; and she went down to the fountain, and filled her pitcher, and came up. 17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, "Give me to drink, I pray, a little water of your pitcher." 18 And she said, "Drink, my Adon;" and she hastened, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink. 19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, "I will draw for your camels also, until they have done drinking." 20 And she hastened, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw, and drew for all his camels. 21 And the man looked stedfastly on her; holding his peace, to know whether יהוה had made his journey prosperous or not. 22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold; 23 and said, "Whose daughter are you, tell me, I pray? Is there room in your father's house for us to lodge in?" 24 And she said unto him, "I am the daughter of Betu'el Ben Milkah, whom she bore unto Nakhor." 25 She said moreover unto him, "We have both straw and provision enough, and room to lodge in." 26 And the man bowed his head, and prostrated himself before יהוה. And 27 he said "Blessed is יהוה , the Elohim of my Adon, Avraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my Adon; as for me, יהוה has led me in the way to the house of my Adon's brethren." 28 And the damsel ran, and told her mother's house according to these words. 29 And Rivkah had a brother, and his name was Lavan; and Lavan ran out unto the man, unto the fountain. 30 And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rivkah his sister, saying, "Thus spoke the man unto me," that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the fountain. 31 And he said, "Come in, O blessed of יהוה ; why do you stand outside? For I have cleared the house, and made room for the camels." 32 And the man came into the house, and he ungirded the camels; and he gave straw and provision for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men that were with him. 33 And there was set food before him to eat; but he said, "I will not eat, until I have told my errand." And he said, "Speak on." 34 And he said, "I am Avraham's servant. 35 And יהוה has blessed my Adon greatly; and he is become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels and donkeys. 36 And Sarah, my Adon's wife, bore a son to my master when she was old; and unto him has he given all that he has. 37 And my Adon made me swear, saying, 'You shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Kena'ani, in whose land I dwell. 38 But you shall go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son." 39 And I said unto my Adon, 'Perhaps the woman will not follow me." 40 And he said unto me, ' יהוה , before whom I walk, will send His Malakh with you, and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house; 41 then shall you be clear from my oath, when you come to my kindred; and if they give her not to you, you shall be clear from my oath." 42 And I came this day unto the fountain, and said, 'O יהוה , the Elohim of my master Avraham, if now You do prosper my way which I go, 43 behold, I stand by the fountain of water; and let it come to pass, that the maiden that comes forth to draw, to whom I shall say, 'Give me, I pray, a little water from your pitcher to drink;' 44 and she shall say to me, 'Both drink, you, and I will also draw for your camels;' let the same be the woman whom יהוה has appointed for my master's son." 45 And before I had done speaking to my heart, behold, Rivkah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the fountain, and drew. And I said unto her, 'Let me drink, I pray." 46 And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, 'Drink, and I will give your camels drink also." So I drank, and she made the camels drink also. 47 And I asked her, and said, "Whose daughter are you?" And she said, 'The daughter of Betu'el, Nakhor's son, whom Milkah bore unto him." And I put the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands. 48 And I bowed my head, and prostrated myself before יהוה , and blessed יהוה , the Elohim of my Adon, Avraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son. 49 And now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me; and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left." 50 Then Lavan and Betu'el answered and said, "The thing proceeds from יהוה ; we cannot speak unto you bad or good. 51 Behold, Rivkah is before you, take her, and go, and let her be your Adon's son's wife, as יהוה has spoken." 52 And it came to pass, that when Avraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth unto יהוה . And 53 the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rivkah; he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things. 54 And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, "Send me away unto my Adon." 55 And her brother and her mother said, "Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go." 56 And he said unto them, "Delay me not, seeing יהוה has prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master." 57 And they said, "We will call the damsel, and inquire at her mouth." 58 And they called Rivkah, and said unto her, "Will you go with this man?" And she said, "I will go." 59 And they sent away Rivkah their sister, and her nurse, and Avraham's servant, and his men. 60 And they blessed Rivkah, and said unto her, "Our sister, be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your seed possess the gate of those that hate them." 61 And Rivkah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man. And the servant took Rivkah, and went his way. 62 And Yitz'khak came from the way of Be'er-lakhai-ro'i; for he dwelt in the land of the South. 63 And Yitz'khak went out to meditate in the field in the evening; and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, there were camels coming. 64 And Rivkah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Yitz'khak, she alighted from the camel. 65 And she said unto the servant, "What man is this that walks in the field to meet us?" And the servant said, "It is my Adon." And she took her veil, and covered herself. 66 And the servant told Yitz'khak all the things that he had done. 67 And Yitz'khak brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rivkah, and she became his wife; and he loved her. And Yitz'kahk was comforted for his mother.

B'reshit Chapter 25
1 And Avraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah. 2 And she bore him Zimran, and Yokshan, and Medan, and MidYan, and Ishbak, and Shu'ah. 3 And Yokshan begot Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Ashurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. 4 And the sons of MidYan: Efah, and Efer, and Khanokh, and Avida, and Elda'ah. All these were the children of Keturah. 5 And Avraham gave all that he had unto Yitz'khak. 6 But unto the sons of the concubines that Avraham had, Avraham gave gifts; and he sent them away from Yitz'khak his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country. 7 And these are the days of the years of Avraham's life which he lived, a hundred and seventy-five years. 8 And Avraham expired, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people. 9 And Yitz'khak and Yishma'el his sons buried him in the cave of Makhpelah, in the field of Efron Ben Tzokhar the Khiti, which is before Mamre; 10 the field which Avraham purchased of the children of Khet; there was Avraham buried, and Sarah his wife. 11 And it came to pass after the death of Avraham, that Elohim blessed Yitz'khak his son; and Yitz'khak dwelt by Be'er-lakhai-ro'i.
12 Now these are the generations of Yishma'el, Avraham's son, whom Hagar the Mitzrit, Sarah's handmaid, bore unto Avraham. 13 And these are the names of the sons of Yishma'el, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Yishma'el, Nevayot; and Kedar, and Adbe'el, and Mivsam, 14 and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa; 15 Khadad, and Tema, Yetur, Nafish, and Kedem; 16 these are the sons of Yishma'el, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments; twelve princes according to their nations. 17 And these are the years of the life of Yishma'el, a hundred and thirty-seven years; and he expired and died; and was gathered unto his people. 18 And they dwelt from Khavilah unto Shur that is before Mitzrayim, as you go toward Ashur: over against all his brethren he did settle.

HAFTARAH

Melakhim Alef Chapter 1
1 Now Melekh David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he could get no heat. 2 Therefore his servants said unto him, "Let there be sought for my Adon HaMelekh a young virgin; and let her stand before HaMelekh, and be a companion unto him; and let her lie in your bosom, that my Adon HaMelekh may get heat." 3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Yisra'el, and found Avishag the Shunamit, and brought her to HaMelekh. 4 And the damsel was very fair; and she became a companion unto HaMelekh, and ministered to him; but HaMelekh knew her not.
5 Now Adon-Yah Ben Khagit exalted himself, saying, "I will be king"; and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. 6 And his father had not grieved him all his life in saying, "Why have you done so?" And he was also a very goodly man; and he was born after Avshalom. 7 And he conferred with Yo'av Ben Tz'ru-Yah, and with Evyatar the Kohen; and they, following Adon-Yah, helped him. 8 But Tzadok the Kohen, and Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah, and Natan HaNavi, and Shimi, and Re'i, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adon-Yah. 9 And Adon-Yah slew sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zokhelet, which is beside Ein Rogel; and he called all his brethren the sons of HaMelekh, and all the men of Yehudah the servants of HaMelekh; 10 but Natan HaNavi, and Benah-Yahu, and the mighty men, and Shlomo his brother, he called not.
11 Then Natan spoke unto Bat Shevah the mother of Shlomo, saying, "Have you not heard that Adon-Yah Ben Khagit does reign, and David our Adon knows it not? 12 Now therefore come, let me, I pray, give you counsel, that you may save your own life, and the life of your son Shlomo. 13 Go and get yourself in unto Melekh David, and say unto him, 'Did you not, my Adon, O Melekh, swear unto your handmaid, saying, 'Assuredly Shlomo your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? Why then does Adon-Yah reign?' 14 Behold, while you yet talk there with HaMelekh, I also will come in after you, and confirm your words."
15 And Bat Shevah went in unto HaMelekh into the chamber. Now HaMelekh was very old; and Avishag the Shunamit ministered unto HaMelekh. 16 And Bat Shevah bowed, and prostrated herself unto HaMelekh. And HaMelekh said, "What would you have?" 17 And she said unto him, "My Adon, you did swear by יהוה your Elohim unto your handmaid, 'Assuredly Shlomo your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne'. 18 And now, behold, Adon-Yah reigns; and you, my Adon HaMelekh, know it not. 19 And he has slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of HaMelekh, and Evyatar the Kohen, and Yo'av the captain of the host; but Shlomo your servant has he not called. 20 And you, my Adon HaMelekh, the eyes of all Yisra'el are upon you, that you should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my Adon HaMelekh after him. 21 Otherwise it will come to pass, when my Adon HaMelekh shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Shlomo shall be counted offenders."
22 And, lo, while she yet talked with HaMelekh, Natan HaNavi came in. 23 And they told HaMelekh, saying, "Behold Natan HaNavi." And when he was come in before HaMelekh, he bowed down before HaMelekh with his face to the ground. 24 And Natan said, "My Adon, O Melekh, have you said, 'Adon-Yah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne'? 25 For he is gone down this day, and has slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of HaMelekh, and the captains of the host, and Evyatar the Kohen; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, 'Long live king Adon-Yah'. 26 But me, even me your servant, and Tzadok the Kohen, and Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah, and your servant Shlomo, has he not called. 27 Is this thing done by my Adon HaMelekh, and you have not declared unto your servant who should sit on the throne of my Adon HaMelekh after him?"
28 Then Melekh David answered and said, "Call for me Bat Shevah." And she came into the presence of HaMelekh, and stood before HaMelekh. 29 And HaMelekh swore and said, "As יהוה lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity, 30 truly, as I swore unto you by יהוה Elohei Yisra'el, saying, 'Assuredly Shlomo your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead'; truly, so will I do this day." 31 Then Bat Shevah bowed with her face to the earth, and prostrated herself to HaMelekh, and said, "Let my Adon Melekh David live forever."

KETUVIM

Tehillah 45
1 For the Leader; upon Shoshannim; for the sons of Korakh. A Maskil. A Song of loves. 2 My heart overflows with a goodly matter; I say, "My work is concerning a Melekh"; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. 3 You are fairer than the children of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore Elohim has blessed you forever. 4 Gird your sword upon your thigh, O mighty one, your glory and your majesty. 5 And in your majesty prosper, ride on, in behalf of truth and meekness and righteousness; and let your right hand teach you tremendous things. 6 Your arrows are sharp; the peoples fall under you; [they sink] into the heart of the enemies of HaMelekh. 7 Your throne given of Elohim is forever and ever; a scepter of equity is the scepter of your Malkhut. 8 You have loved righteousness, and hated wickedness; therefore Elohim, your Elohim, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows. 9 Myrrh, and aloes, and cassia are all your garments; out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made you glad. 10 Kings' daughters are among your favorites; at your right hand does stand the queen in gold of Ofir. 11 "Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear; forget also your own people, and your father's house; 12 So shall HaMelekh desire your beauty; for he is your Adonai; and do homage unto him. 13 And, O daughter of Tzor, the richest of the people shall entreat your favor with a gift." 14 All glorious is the daughter of HaMelekh within the palace; her raiment is of chequer work inwrought with gold. 15 She shall be led unto HaMelekh on richly woven stuff; the virgins, her companions in her train, being brought unto you. 16 They shall be led with gladness and rejoicing; they shall enter into the palace of HaMelekh. 17 Instead of your fathers shall be your sons, whom you shall make princes in all the land. 18 I will make your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore shall the
peoples praise you forever and ever.

BRIT KHADASHAH

Matti Chapter 2
1 When Yeshua was born in Beit Lekhem of Y'hudah, in the days of Herodus the king, there came M'gushim from the East to Yerushalayim. 2 And they were saying, “Where is the King of the Yehudim who has been born? For we have seen His star in the East, so we have come to worship Him.” 3 But when Herodus the king heard it, he trembled, and all Yerushalayim with him. 4 So he gathered together all the Kohanim and the Sofrim of the people, and he kept asking them where the Mashi'akh would be born. 5 They said, “In Beit Lekhem of Y'hudah, for thus it is written in the book of the Navi: 6 ‘Even you, Beit Lekhem of Y'hudah, you are not insignificant in the eyes of the kings of Y'hudah, for from you shall come out a king who will shepherd my people Yisra'el.'” 7 Then Herodus called the M'gushim secretly, and he learned from them at what time the star appeared to them. 8 And he sent them to Beit Lekhem, and said to them, “Go and enquire very carefully concerning the boy, and when you have found Him, come back and let me know, so that I also may go and worship Him.” 9 When they had heard from the king, they went away; and behold, the same star that they had seen in the east was going before them, until it came and stood just above the place where the infant boy was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly. 11 And they entered the house, and they saw the infant boy with Miryam, His mother; and they threw themselves down and worshipped Him; and they opened their treasures and offered to Him gifts – gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And they saw in a dream not to return to Herodus, so they departed to their own country by another way. 13 When they had gone, a messenger of יהוה appeared to Yosef in a dream, and said to him, “Arise, take the infant boy and His mother, and escape to Mitzrayim, and stay there until I tell you, for Herodus is ready to demand the child so as to destroy Him.” 14 Then Yosef rose up, took the infant boy and His mother in the night, and escaped to Mitzrayim. 15 And he remained there until the death of Herodus, so that what was said from יהוה by the Navi might be fulfilled, “I have called my son from Mitzrayim.”
16 When Herodus saw that he was insulted by the M'gushim, he was greatly enraged, so he sent forth and had all the infant boys in Beit Lekhem and in its borders killed, from two years old and down, according to the time that he had enquired from the M'gushim. 17 Then was fulfilled what was said by the Navi Yirme-Yahu who said, 18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and wailing exceedingly, Rakhel weeping for her sons, and she would not be comforted, because they could not be brought back.”
19 When King Herodus died, a messenger of יהוה appeared in a dream to Yosef in Mitzrayim. 20 And he said to him, “Arise, take the boy and His mother, and go to the land of Yisra'el, for those who were seeking the boy’s life are dead. 21 So Yosef rose up, took the boy and His mother, and he came to the land of Yisra'el. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus had become king over Y'hudah in the place of his father Herodus, he was afraid to go there; and it was revealed to him in a dream to go to the land of the Galil. 23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Natzrat, so that what was said by the Navi might be fulfilled, “He shall be called a Natzri.”

Matti Chapter 8
19 And a Sofer drew near and said to Him, “Rabbi, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 Yeshua said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the fowls of the sky a sheltering place, but Ben HaAdam has no place even to lay His head.” 21 Another of His Talmidim said to Him, “My Adon, permit me first to go and bury my father.” 22 But Yeshua said to him, “Come after me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

Luka Chapter 9
57 And while they were on the journey, a man said to Him, “My Adon, I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 Yeshua said to him, “Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air a shelter; but Ben HaAdam has no place even to lay his head.” 59 He said to another, “Follow me,” but he said to Him, “My Adon, permit me first to go and bury my father.” 60 Yeshua said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead; but you, go and declare Malkhut HaElohim.” 61 Another one said to Him, “I will follow you, My Adon; but permit me first to entrust my household to someone, and then come.” 62 Yeshua said to him, “No man who puts his hand on the plough handle and looks back is fit for Malkhut HaElohim.”
