B'reshit Chapter 25
19 And these are the generations of Yitz'khak, Avraham’s son: Avraham begot Yitz'khak. 20 And Yitz'khak was forty years old when he took Rivkah, the daughter of Betu'el the Arami, of Padan Aram, the sister of Lavan the Arami, to be his wife. 21 And Yitz'khak entreated יהוה for his wife, because she was barren; and יהוה let Himself be entreated of him, and Rivkah his wife conceived. 22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is so, why do I live?" And she went to inquire of יהוה . And 23 יהוה said unto her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger." 24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. 25 And the first came forth ruddy, all over like a hairy mantle; and they called his name Esav. 26 And after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esav’s heel; and his name was called Ya'akov. And Yitz'khak was sixty years old when she bore them. 27 And the boys grew; and Esav was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Ya'akov was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. 28 Now Yitz'khak loved Esav, because he did eat of his venison; and Rivkah loved Ya'akov. 29 And Ya'akov boiled pottage; and Esav came in from the field, and he was faint. 30 And Esav said to Ya'akov, "Let me eat, I pray, some of this red, red pottage; for I am faint." Therefore was his name called Edom. 31 And Ya'akov said, "Sell me first your birthright." 32 And Esav said, "Behold, I am at the point to die; and what profit shall the birthright do to me?" 33 And Ya'akov said, "Swear to me first;" and he swore unto him; and he sold his birthright unto Ya'akov. 34 And Ya'akov gave Esav bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way. So Esav despised his birthright.

B'reshit Chapter 26
1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Avraham. And Yitz'khak went unto Avimelekh king of the P'lishtim unto Gerar. 2 And יהוה appeared unto him, and said, "Go not down unto Mitzrayim; dwell in the land which I shall tell you of. 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you; for unto you, and unto your seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore unto Avraham your father; 4 and I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and will give unto your seed all these lands; and by your seed shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves; 5 because that Avraham hearkened to My voice, and kept My charge, My Mitzvot, My Khukot, and My laws." 6 And Yitz'khak dwelt in Gerar. 7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, "She is my sister," for he feared to say, 'my wife;' 'lest the men of the place should kill me for Rivkah, because she is fair to look upon.' 8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Avimelekh king of the P'lishtim looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Yitz'khak was sporting with Rivkah his wife. 9 And Avimelekh called Yitz'khak, and said, "Behold, of a surety she is your wife; and how did you say, 'She is my sister'?" And Yitz'khak said unto him, "Because I said, 'Lest I die because of her'." 10 And Avimelekh said, "What is this you have done unto us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guiltiness upon us." 11 And Avimelekh charged all the people, saying, "He that touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death." 12 And Yitz'khak sowed in that land, and found in the same year a hundredfold; and יהוה blessed him. 13 And the man waxed great, and grew more and more until he became very great. 14 And he had possessions of flocks, and possessions of herds, and a great household; and the P'lishtim envied him. 15 Now all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Avraham his father, the P'lishtim had stopped them, and filled them with earth. 16 And Avimelekh said unto Yitz'khak, "Go from us; for you are much mightier than we." 17 And Yitz'khak departed there, and encamped in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. 18 And Yitz'khak digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Avraham his father; for the P'lishtim had stopped them after the death of Avraham; and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them. 19 And Yitz'khak’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of Mayim Khayim. 20 And the herdmen of Gerar strove with Yitz'khak’s herdmen, saying, "The water is ours." And he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him. 21 And they digged another well, and they strove for that also. And he called the name of it Sitnah. 22 And he removed from there, and digged another well; and for that they strove not. And he called the name of it Rekhovot; and he said, "For now יהוה has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land." 23 And he went up from there to Be'er Shava. 24 And יהוה appeared unto him the same night, and said, "I am the Elohim of Avraham your father. Fear not, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for My servant Avraham's sake." 25 And he built a Mizbe'akh there, and called upon the Name of יהוה , and pitched his tent there; and there Yitz'khak's servants digged a well. 26 Then Avimelekh went to him from Gerar, and Akhuzat his friend, and Pikhol the captain of his host. 27 And Yitz'khak said unto them, "Why are you come unto me, seeing you hate me, and have sent me away from you?" 28 And they said, "We saw plainly that יהוה was with you, and we said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you, 29 that you will do us no hurt, as we have not touched you, and as we have done unto you nothing but good, and have sent you away in shalom; you are now the Blessed of יהוה '." And30 he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink. 31 And they rose up betimes in the morning, and swore one to another; and Yitz'khak sent them away, and they departed from him in shalom. 32 And it came to pass the same day, that Yitz'khak's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, "We have found water." 33 And he called it Shivah. Therefore the name of the city is Be'er Sheva unto this day.
34 And when Esav was forty years old, he took as a wife Y'hudit the daughter of Be'eri the Khiti, and Basemat the daughter of Eilon the Khiti. 35 And they were a bitterness of spirit unto Yitz'khak and to Rivkah.

B'reshit Chapter 27
1 And it came to pass, that when Yitz'khak was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esav his elder son, and said unto him, "My son;" and he said unto him, "Here am I." 2 And he said, "Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death. 3 Now therefore take, I pray, your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison; 4 and make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat; that my soul may bless you before I die." 5 And Rivkah heard when Yitz'khak spoke to Esav his son. And Esav went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it. 6 And Rivkah spoke unto Ya'akov her son, saying, "Behold, I heard your father speak unto Esav your brother, saying, 7 'Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before יהוה before my death'." 8 Now therefore, my son, hearken to my voice according to that which I command you. 9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from there two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves; 10 and you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death." 11 And Ya'akov said to Rivkah his mother, "Behold, Esav my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. 12 My father perhaps will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a mocker; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing." 13 And his mother said unto him, "Upon me be your curse, my son; only hearken to my voice, and go fetch me them." 14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother; and his mother made savory food, such as his father loved. 15 And Rivkah took the choicest garments of Esav her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Ya'akov her younger son. 16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck. 17 And she gave the savoury food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Ya'akov. 18 And he came unto his father, and said, "My father," and he said, "Here am I; who are you, my son?" 19 And Ya'akov said unto his father, "I am Esav your firstborn; I have done according as you bade me. Arise, I pray, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me." 20 And Yitz'khak said unto his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" And he said, "Because יהוה your Elohim sent me good speed." 21 And Yitz'khak said unto Ya'akov, "Come near, I pray, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are my very son Esav or not." 22 And Ya'akov went near unto Yitz'khak his father; and he felt him, and said, "The voice is the voice of Ya'akov, but the hands are the hands of Esav." 23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esav's hands; so he blessed him. 24 And he said, "Are you my very son Esav?" And he said, "I am." 25 And he said, "Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless you." And he brought it near to him, and he did eat; and he brought him wine, and he drank. 26 And his father Yitz'khak said unto him, "Come near now, and kiss me, my son." 27 And he came near, and kissed him. And he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, "See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which יהוה has blessed. 28 So Elohim give you of the dew of heaven, and of the fat places of the earth, and plenty of grain and choice wine. 29 Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be every one that curses you, and blessed be every one that blesses you." 30 And it came to pass, as soon as Yitz'khak had made an end of blessing Ya'akov, and Ya'akov was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Yitz'khak his father, that Esav his brother came in from his hunting. 31 And he also made savory food, and brought it unto his father; and he said unto his father, "Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me." 32 And Yitz'khak his father said unto him, "Who are you?" And he said, "I am your son, your firstborn, Esav." 33 And Yitz'khak trembled very exceedingly, and said, "Who then is he that has taken venison, and brought it to me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed." 34 When Esav heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said unto his father, "Bless me, even me also, O my father." 35 And he said, "Your brother came with guile, and has taken away your blessing." 36 And he said, "Is not he rightly named Ya'akov? For he has supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing." And he said, "Have you not reserved a blessing for me?" 37 And Yitz'khak answered and said unto Esav, "Behold, I have made him your master, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with grain and choice wine have I sustained him; and what then shall I do for you, my son?" 38 And Esav said unto his father, "Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father." And Esav lifted up his voice, and wept. 39 And Yitz'khak his father answered and said unto him, "Behold, of the fat places of the earth shall be your dwelling, and of the dew of heaven from above; 40 and by your sword shall you live, and you shall serve your brother; and it shall come to pass when you shall break loose, that you shall shake his yoke from off your neck." 41 And Esav hated Ya'akov because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him. And Esav said in his heart, "Let the days of mourning for my father be at hand; then will I slay my brother Ya'akov." 42 And the words of Esav her elder son were told to Rivkah; and she sent and called Ya'akov her younger son, and said unto him, "Behold, your brother Esav, as touching you, does comfort himself, purposing to kill you. 43 Now therefore, my son, hearken to my voice; and arise, flee to Lavan my brother to Kharan; 44 and tarry with him a few days, until your brother's fury turns away; 45 until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets that which you have done to him; then I will send, and fetch you from there; why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?" 46 And Rivkah said to Yitz'khak, "I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Khet. If Ya'akov takes a wife of the daughters of Khet, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?"

B'reshit Chapter 28
1 And Yitz'khak called Ya'akov, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, "You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Kena'an. 2 Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Betu'el your mother's father; and take you a wife from there of the daughters of Lavan your mother's brother. 3 And El Shadai bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a congregation of peoples; 4 and give you the blessing of Avraham, to you, and to your seed with you; that you may inherit the land of your sojournings, which Elohim gave unto Avraham." 5 And Yitz'khak sent away Ya'akov; and he went to Padan Aram unto Lavan, son of Betu'el the Arami, the brother of Rivkah, Ya'akov's and Esav's mother. 6 Now Esav saw that Yitz'khak had blessed Ya'akov and sent him away to Padan Aram, to take him a wife from there; and that as he blessed him, he gave him a charge, saying, "You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Kena'an," 7 and that Ya'akov hearkened to his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan Aram; 8 and Esav saw that the daughters of Kena'an pleased not Yitz'khak his father; 9 so Esav went unto Yishma'el, and took unto the wives that he had Makhalat the daughter of Yishma'el Avraham's son, the sister of Nevayot, to be his wife.

HAFTARAH

Malakhi Chapter 1
1 The burden of the D'var יהוה to Yisra'el by Malakhi. 2 "I have loved you, says יהוה . Yet you say, 'Wherein have You loved us?' Was not Esav the brother of Ya'akov, says יהוה ; yet I loved Ya'akov; 3 but Esav I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness. 4 Whereas Edom says, 'We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places'; thus says יהוה Tzeva'ot, 'They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called the border of wickedness, and the people whom יהוה execrates forever. 5 And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, ' יהוה is great beyond the border of Yisra'el'.' 6 A son honors his father, and a servant his master; if then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear, says יהוה Tzeva'ot unto you, O priests, that despise My Name. And you say, 'Wherein have we despised Your Name?' 7 You offer polluted bread upon My Mizbe'akh. And you say, 'Wherein have we polluted You?' In that you say, 'The Shulkhan יהוה is contemptible.' 8 And when you offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil! And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil! Present it now unto your governor; will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person, says יהוה Tzeva'ot. 9 And now, I pray, entreat the favor of Elohim, that He may be gracious unto us! This has been of your doing. Will He accept any of your persons, says יהוה Tzeva'ot? 10 Oh that there were even one among you that would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on My Mizbe'akh in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says יהוה Tzeva'ot, neither will I accept an offering at your hand. 11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, My Name is great among the nations; and in every place offerings are presented unto My Name, even pure oblations; for My Name is great among the nations, says יהוה Tzeva'ot. 12 But you profane it, in that you say, 'The Shulkhan יהוה is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even the food thereof, is contemptible.' 13 You say also, 'Behold, what a weariness is it!' And you have snuffed at it, says יהוה Tzeva'ot; and you have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering; should I accept this of your hand, says יהוה . But 14 cursed is he that deals craftily, whereas he has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices unto Adonai a blemished thing; for I am a Melekh Gadol, says יהוה Tzeva'ot, and My Name is feared among the nations."

Malakhi Chapter 2
1 "And now, this Mitzvah is for you, O you priests. 2 If you will not hearken, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto My Name, says יהוה Tzeva'ot, then will I send the curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings; yes, I curse them, because you do not lay it to heart. 3 Behold, I will rebuke the seed for your hurt, and will spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your sacrifices; and you shall be taken away unto it. 4 Know then that I have sent this Mitzvah unto you, that My Brit might be with Levi, says יהוה Tzeva'ot. 5 My Brit was with him of life and shalom, and I gave them to him, and of fear, and he feared Me, and was afraid of My Name. 6 The Torah of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips; he walked with Me in shalom and uprightness, and did turn many away from iniquity. 7 For the Kohen’s lips should guard knowledge, and they should seek the Torah at his mouth; for he is the Malakh יהוה Tzeva'ot.

KETUVIM

Tehillah 36
1 For the Leader. By David, the servant of יהוה .
2 Transgression speaks to the wicked; in the depth of my heart, there is no fear of Elohim before his eyes. 3 For it flatters him in his eyes, until his iniquity is found, and he is hated. 4 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit; he has left off to be wise, to do good. 5 He devises iniquity upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil. 6 Your compassion, O יהוה , is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches unto the skies. 7 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains; Your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast You preserve, O יהוה .
8 How precious is Your compassion, O Elohim! and the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. 9 They are abundantly satisfied with the abundance of Your House; and You make them drink of the river of Your pleasures. 10 For with You is the fountain of Khayim; in Your light do we see light. 11 O continue Your compassion unto them that know You; and Your tzedaka to the upright in heart. 12 Let not the foot of pride overtake me, and let not the hand of the wicked drive me away. 13 There are the workers of iniquity fallen; they are thrust down, and are not able to rise.

BRIT KHADASHAH

Romim Chapter 9
6 It is not as though D'var HaElohim had actually failed. For all those who belong to Yisra'el are not Yisra'elites. 7 Neither, because they are of the seed of Avraham are they all His children; for it was said, “In Yitz'khak shall your descendants be called.” 8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of Elohim, but the children of the promise who are reckoned as descendants. 9 For this is the D'var of trust: “I will come at this season, and Sarah shall have a son.” 10 And not only this; but Rivkah also, even though she had intimacy with one only, our father Yitz'khak; 11 before her children were born or had done good or evil, the choice of Elohim was made known in advance, that it might stand, not by means of works, but through Him who made the choice. 12 For it was said, “The elder shall be the servant of the younger.” 13 As it is written, “Ya'akov have I loved, but Esav have I hated.”
14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice with Elohim? What profanity! 15 For He said to Moshe also, “I will have mercy on him whom I have mercy, and I will give favor to whom I give favor.” 16 Therefore, it is not within the reach of him who wishes, nor within the reach of him who strives, but it is within the reach of the merciful Elohim.

Luka Chapter 3
1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, during the governorship of Pontius Pilatos in Y'hudah, when Herodus was tetrarch of the Galil, and his brother Filipos tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanius tetrarch of Abileena, 2 during the priesthoods of Khanan and Kayafah, D'var HaElohim came to Yokhanan Ben Zekhar-Yah in the wilderness. 3 And he went throughout the country around Yarden, declaring the immersion of repentance for the forgiveness of sins; 4 as it is written in the book of the words of Yesha-Yahu HaNavi, “The voice which calls in the wilderness, ‘Prepare Derekh יהוה , make the paths of our Elohim straight in the plain. 5 Let all the valleys be filled up, and all the mountains and hills be leveled; let the crooked places be made straight, and the rough places like a plain; 6 and let all flesh see the Salvation of Elohim.'” 7 And he said to the people who were coming to him to be immersed, “O offspring of scorpions, who has warned you to escape from the anger which is coming? 8 Therefore bring forth fruits which are worthy of repentance; and do not begin to say within yourselves, ‘We have Avraham as our father;' for I say to you that Elohim can raise up children for Avraham from these stones. 9 Behold, the axe is already placed at the root of the trees; therefore every tree which bears not good fruits will be cut down and cast into the fire.” 10 And the people asked him, saying, “What then shall we do?” 11 He answered, saying to them, “He who has two shirts, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” 12 And there came also tax collectors to be immersed, and they said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 13 He said to them, “Do not exact anything more than what is commanded you to exact.” 14 And the soldiers also asked him saying, “What shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not do violence to any man, and do not accuse any man; your own wages should be enough for you.”
15 While the people were placing their hope on Yokhanan, and all of them were thinking in their hearts, ‘Perhaps he is the Mashi'akh,' 16 Yokhanan answered, saying to them, “Behold, I immerse you with water; but one is coming after me, who is greater than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen; He will immerse you with The Ru'akh HaKodesh, and with fire. 17 He holds a shovel in his hand, and purifies His threshing; the wheat He gathers into his barns, and the straw He burns in the unquenchable fire.” 18 Many other things also he taught and declared to the people.
