B'reshit Chapter 18
1 And יהוה appeared unto him by the terebinths of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2 and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood above him; and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed down to the earth, 3 and said, "Adonai, if now I have found favor in your sight, pass not away, I pray, from your servant. 4 Let now a little water be fetched, and wash your feet, and recline yourselves under the tree. 5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and stay your heart; after that you shall pass on; forasmuch as you are come to your servant." And they said, "So do, as you have said." 6 And Avraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, "Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes." 7 And Avraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto the servant; and he hastened to dress it. 8 And he took curd, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. 9 And they said unto him, "Where is Sarah your wife?" And he said, "Behold, in the tent." 10 And He said, "I will certainly return unto you when the Mo'ed comes round; and, lo, Sarah your wife shall have a son." And Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
11 Now Avraham and Sarah were old, and well stricken in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12 And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my Adon being old also?" 13 And יהוה said unto Avraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, "Shall I of a surety bear a child, who am old?" 14 Is any thing too hard for יהוה ? At the Mo'ed I will return unto you, when the moed comes round, and Sarah shall have a son." 15 Then Sarah denied, saying, "I laughed not"; for she was afraid. And He said, "Nay; but you did laugh." 16 And the men rose up from there, and looked out toward S'dom; and Avraham went with them to bring them on the way. 17 And יהוה said, "Shall I hide from Avraham that which I am doing, 18 seeing that Avraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of יהוה , to do righteousness and justice; to the end that יהוה may bring upon Avraham that which He has spoken of him." 20 And יהוה said, "Verily, the cry of S'dom and Amorah is great, and, verily, their sin is exceedingly grievous. 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto Me; and if not, I will know." 22 And the men turned from there, and went toward S'dom; but Avraham stood yet before יהוה . And 23 Avraham drew near, and said, "Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Perhaps there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep away and not forgive the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? 25 That be far from You to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked; that be far from You; shall not the Judge of all the earth do justly?" 26 And יהוה said, "If I find in S'dom fifty righteous within the city, then I will forgive all the place for their sake." 27 And Avraham answered and said, "Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto Adonai, who am but dust and ashes. 28 Perhaps there shall lack five of the fifty righteous; will You destroy all the city for lack of five?" And He said, "I will not destroy it, if I find there forty-five." 29 And he spoke unto Him yet again, and said, "perhaps there shall be forty found there." And He said, "I will not do it for the forty’s sake." 30 And he said, "Oh, let not Adonai be angry, and I will speak. perhaps there shall thirty be found there." And He said, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there." 31 And he said, "Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto Adonai. perhaps there shall be twenty found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake." 32 And he said, "Oh, let not Adonai be angry, and I will speak yet but this once. perhaps ten shall be found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake." 33 And יהוה went His way, as soon as He had left off speaking to Avraham; and Avraham returned unto his place.

B'reshit Chapter 19
1 And the two malakhim came to S'dom at evening; and Lot sat in the gate of S'dom; and Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them; and he fell down on his face to the earth; 2 and he said, "Behold now, Adonai, turn aside, I pray, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and you shall rise up early, and go on your way." And they said, "Nay; but we will abide in the street." 3 And he urged them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and baked matzot, and they did eat. 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of S'dom, encompassed the house round, both young and old, all the people from every quarter. 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, "Where are the men that came in to you this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them." 6 And Lot went out unto them to the door, and shut the door after him. 7 And he said, "I pray, my brethren, do not so wickedly. 8 Behold now, I have two daughters that have not known man; let me, I pray, bring them out unto you, and you do to them as is good in your eyes; only unto these men do nothing; forasmuch as they are come under the shadow of my roof." 9 And they said, "Stand back." And they said, "This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he plays the judge; now will we deal worse with you, than with them." And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and drew near to break the door. 10 But the men put forth their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and they shut the door. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great; so that they wearied themselves to find the door. 12 And the men said unto Lot, "Have you here any besides, son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whoever you have in the city; bring them out of the place; 13 for we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxed great before יהוה ; and יהוה has sent us to destroy it." 14 And Lot went out, and spoke unto his sons-in-law, who married his daughters, and said, "Up, get out of this place; for יהוה will destroy the city." But he seemed unto his sons-in-law as one that jested. 15 And when the morning arose, then the malakhim hastened Lot, saying, "Arise, take your wife, and your two daughters that are here; lest you be swept away in the iniquity of the city." 16 But he lingered; and the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; יהוה being merciful unto him. And they brought him forth, and set him without the city. 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, "Escape for your life; look not behind you, neither stay in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest you be swept away." 18 And Lot said unto them, "Oh, not so, my Adon; 19 behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have shown unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest the evil overtake me, and I die. 20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one; oh, let me escape there, and my soul shall live; is it not a little one?" 21 And he said unto him, "See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. 22 Hasten, escape there; for I cannot do any thing till you come there." Therefore the name of the city was called Tzo'ar.
23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot came unto Tzo'ar. 24 Then יהוה caused to rain upon S'dom and upon Amorah brimstone and fire from יהוה out of heaven; 25 and He overthrow those cities, and all the Plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. 27 And Avraham got up early in the morning to the place where he had stood before יהוה . And28 he looked out toward S'dom and Amorah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace.
29 And it came to pass, when Elohim destroyed the cities of the plain, that Elohim remembered Avraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt. 30 And Lot went up out of Tzo'ar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Tzo'ar; and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. 31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth. 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." 33 And they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he knew not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine this night also; and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." 35 And they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose, and lay with him; and he knew not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. 37 And the firstborn bore a son, and called his name Mo'av, the same is the father of the Mo'avi unto this day. 38 And the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Ben Ami, the same is the father of the children of Amon unto this day.

B'reshit Chapter 20
1 And Avraham journeyed from there toward the land of the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar. 2 And Avraham said of Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." And Avimelekh king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah. 3 But Elohim came to Avimelekh in a dream of the night, and said to him, "Behold, you shall die, because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man's wife." 4 Now Avimelekh had not come near her; and he said, " יהוה , will You slay even a righteous nation? 5 Did he not say himself unto me, 'She is my sister'? And she, even she herself said, 'He is my brother.' In the innocence of my heart and the cleanliness of my hands have I done this." 6 And Elohim said unto him in the dream, "Yes, I know that in the innocence of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against Me. Therefore I did not allow you to touch her. 7 Now therefore restore the man's wife; for he is a Navi, and he shall pray for you, and you shall live; and if you restore her not, know that you shall surely die, you, and all that are yours." 8 And Avimelekh rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears; and the men were sore afraid. 9 Then Avimelekh called Avraham, and said unto him, "What have you done unto us? And wherein have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds unto me that ought not to be done." 10 And Avimelekh said unto Avraham, "What did you see, that you have done this thing?" 11 And Avraham said, "Because I thought, 'Surely the fear of Elohim is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake'. 12 And moreover she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and so she became my wife. 13 And it came to pass, when Elohim caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, 'This is your kindness which you shall show unto me; at every place where we shall come, say of me, 'He is my brother'.'" 14 And Avimelekh took sheep and oxen, and men-servants and women-servants, and gave them unto Avraham, and restored to him Sarah his wife. 15 And Avimelekh said, "Behold, my land is before you: dwell where it pleases you." 16 And unto Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you; and before all men you are righted." 17 And Avraham prayed unto Elohim; and Elohim healed Avimelekh, and his wife, and his maid-servants; and they bore children. 18 For יהוה had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Avimelekh, because of Sarah, Avraham's wife.

B'reshit Chapter 21
1 And יהוה remembered Sarah as He had said, and יהוה did unto Sarah as He had spoken. 2 And Sarah conceived, and bore Avraham a son in his old age, at the Mo'ed of which Elohim had spoken to him. 3 And Avraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bore to him, Yitz'khak. 4 And Avraham circumcised his son Yitz'khak when he was eight days old, as Elohim had commanded him. 5 And Avraham was a hundred years old, when his son Yitz'khak was born unto him. 6 And Sarah said, "Elohim has made laughter for me; the one that hears will laugh on account of me." 7 And she said, "Who would have said unto Avraham that Sarah should nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age." 8 And the child grew, and was weaned. And Avraham made a great feast on the day that Yitz'khak was weaned. 9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Mitzrit, whom she had borne unto Avraham, making sport. 10 Therefore she said unto Avraham, "Cast out this maidservant and her son; for the son of this maidservant shall not be heir with my son, even with Yitz'khak." 11 And the thing was very grievous in Avraham's sight on account of his son. 12 And Elohim said unto Avraham, "Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the lad, and because of your maidservant; in all that Sarah says unto you, hearken unto her voice; for in Yitz'khak shall a seed be called to you. 13 And also of the son of the maidservant will I make a nation, because he is your seed." 14 And Avraham arose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away; and she departed, and strayed in the wilderness of Be'er Shava. 15 And the water in the bottle was spent, and she sent the boy under one of the shrubs. 16 And she went, and sat herself down over against him a good way off, as it were a bow-shot; for she said, "Let me not look upon the death of the child." And she sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept. 17 And Elohim heard the voice of the lad; and the Malakh Elohim called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, "What ails you, Hagar? Fear not; for Elohim has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him fast by your hand; for I will make him a great nation." 19 And Elohim opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink. 20 And Elohim was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. 21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Mitzrayim.
22 And it came to pass at that time, that Avimelekh and Pikhol the captain of his host spoke unto Avraham, saying, "Elohim is with you in all that you do. 23 Now therefore swear unto me here by Elohim that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son; but according to the kindness that I have done unto you, you shall do unto me, and to the land wherein you have sojourned." 24 And Avraham said, "I will swear." 25 And Avraham reproved Avimelekh because of the well of water, which Avimelekh's servants had violently taken away. 26 And Avimelekh said, "I know not who has done this thing; neither did you tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but today." 27 And Avraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Avimelekh; and the two of them made a covenant. 28 And Avraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. 29 And Avimelekh said unto Avraham, "What mean these seven ewe-lambs which you have set by themselves?" 30 And he said, "Truly, these seven ewe-lambs shall you take of my hand, that it may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well." 31 Therefore that place was called Be'er Sheva; because there they swore both of them. 32 So they made a covenant at Be'er Sheva; and Avimelekh rose up, and Fikhol the captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the P'lishtim. 33 And Avraham planted a tamarisk tree in Be'er Sheva, and called there on the Name of יהוה , El Olam. 34 And Avraham sojourned in the land of the P'lishtim many days.

B'reshit Chapter 22
1 And it came to pass after these things, that Elohim did prove Avraham, and said unto him, "Avraham;" and he said, "Here am I." 2 And He said, "Take now your son, your beloved one, whom you love, even Yitz'khak, and get into the land of Mor-Yah, and offer him there for an Olah upon one of the mountains which I will tell you of." 3 And Avraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Yitz'kak his son; and he cleaved the wood for the Olah, and rose up, and went unto the place of which Elohim had told him. 4 On the third day Avraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. 5 And Avraham said unto his young men, "Abide here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go yonder; and we will worship, and come back to you." 6 And Avraham took the wood of the Olah, and laid it upon Yitz'khak his son; and he took in his hand the fire and the knife; and they went both of them together. 7 And Yitz'khak spoke unto Avraham his father, and said, "My father?" And he said, "Here am I, my son." And he said, "Behold the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for an Olah?" 8 And Avraham said, "Elohim will see to HaSeh for an Olah, my son." So they went both of them together. 9 And they came to the place which Elohim had told him of; and Avraham built the Mizbe'akh there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Yitz'khak his son, and laid him on the Mizbe'akh, upon the wood. 10 And Avraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. 11 And the Malakh יהוה called unto him out of heaven, and said, "Avraham, Avraham." And he said, "Here am I." 12 And he said, "Lay not your hand upon the lad, neither do anything unto him; for now I know that you are a man who fears Elohim, seeing you have not withheld your son, your beloved one, from Me." 13 And Avraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, behind him there was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. And Avraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for an Olah in the stead of his son. 14 And Avraham called the name of that place יהוה Yireh; as it is said to this day, "In the mount where יהוה will see to it." 15 And the Malakh יהוה called unto Avraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said, "By Myself have I sworn," says יהוה , "because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 that in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; 18 and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have hearkened to My voice." 19 So Avraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Be'er Sheva; and Avraham dwelt at Be'er Sheva.
20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Avraham, saying, "Behold, Milkah, she also has borne children unto your brother Nakhor. 21 Uz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemu'el the father of Aram; 22 and Kesed, and Khazo, and Pildash, and Yidlaf, and Betu'el." 23 And Betu'el begot Rivkah; these eight did Milkah bear to Nakhor, Avraham's brother. 24 And his concubine, whose name was Re'umah, she also bore Tevakh, and Gakham, and Takhash, and Ma'akhah.

HAFTARAH

Melakhim Bet Chapter 4
1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the Nevi'im unto Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant did fear יהוה ; and the creditor is come to take unto him my two children to be servants." 2 And Elisha said unto her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?" And she said, "Your handmaid has not anything in the house, save a pot of oil." 3 Then he said, "Go, borrow vessels abroad of all your neighbors, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. 4 And you shall go in, and shut the door upon you and upon your sons, and pour out into all those vessels; and you shall set aside that which is full." 5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons; they brought the vessels to her, and she poured out. 6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, "Bring me yet a vessel." And he said unto her, "There is not a vessel more." And the oil stayed. 7 Then she came and told the man of Elohim. And he said, "Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt, and live, you and your sons, off the rest."
8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where there was a rich woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat bread. 9 And she said unto her husband, "Behold now, I perceive that this is a consecrated man of Elohim, that passes by us continually. 10 Let us make, I pray, a little chamber on the roof; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a chair, and a menorah; and it shall be, when he comes to us, that he shall turn in there."
11 And it fell on a day, that he came there, and he turned into the upper chamber and lay there. 12 And he said to Gekhazi his servant, "Call this Shunamit." And when he had called her, she stood before him. 13 And he said unto him, "Say now unto her, 'Behold, you have been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for you? Would you be spoken for to HaMelekh, or to the captain of the host?'" And she answered, "I dwell among my own people." 14 And he said, "What then is to be done for her?" And Gekhazi answered, "Truly, she has no son, and her husband is old." 15 And he said, "Call her." And when he had called her, she stood in the door. 16 And he said, "At this season, when the time comes round, you shall embrace a son." And she said, "Nay, my Adon, you man of Elohim, do not lie unto your handmaid." 17 And the woman conceived, and bore a son at that season, when the time came round, as Elisha had said unto her.
18 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. 19 And he said unto his father, "My head, my head." And he said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother." 20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. 21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of Elohim, and shut the door upon him, and went out. 22 And she called unto her husband, and said, "Send me, I pray, one of the servants, and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of Elohim, and come back." 23 And he said, "Why will you go to him today? It is neither Khodesh nor Shabbat." And she said, "It shall be well." 24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, "Drive, and go forward; slacken me not the riding, except I bid you."
25 So she went, and came unto the man of Elohim to Har Karmel. And it came to pass, when the man of Elohim saw her afar off, that he said to Gekhazi his servant, "Behold, yonder is that Shunamit. 26 Run, I pray, now to meet her, and say unto her, 'Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?'" And she answered, "It is well." 27 And when she came to the man of Elohim to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. And Gekhazi came near to thrust her away; but the man of Elohim said, "Let her alone; for her soul is bitter within her; and יהוה has hid it from me, and has not told Me." 28 Then she said, "Did I desire a son of my Adon? Did I not say, 'Do not deceive me'?" 29 Then he said to Gekhazi, "Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go your way; if you meet any man, salute him not; and if anyone salutes you, answer him not; and lay my staff upon the face of the child." 30 And the mother of the child said, "As יהוה lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." And he arose, and followed her.
31 And Gekhazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Therefore he returned to meet him, and told him, saying, "The child is not awakened." 32 And when Elisha came into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. 33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon the two, and prayed unto יהוה . And 34 he went up, and laid upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands; and he stretched himself upon him; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. 35 Then he returned, and walked in the house once to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him; and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. 36 And he called Gekhazi, and said, "Call this Shunamit." So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, "Take up your son." 37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed down to the ground; and she took up her son, and went out.

KETUVIM

Tehillim 11
For the Leader. By David. 1 In הוהי have I taken refuge; how do you say to my soul, "Flee! To your mountain, you birds!"? 2 For, lo, the wicked bend the bow, they have made ready their arrow upon the string, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. 3 When the foundations are destroyed, O, Tzadik, what a wonder? 4 הוהי is in His Heikhal Kadosh, His throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His הוהי, eyelids try the children of men. 5 הוהי tries a Tzadik; but the wicked and him that loves violence His soul hates. 6 Upon the wicked He will cause to rain coals; fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For הוהי is a Tzadik, He loves righteous acts; the upright shall behold His face.

BRIT KHADASHAH

Ya'akov Chapter 2
14 Though a man says he has absolute trust, what profit is it, my brethren, if he does not have works? Can Emunah save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and lacking of daily food, 16 and one of you says to him, "Depart in shalom, be warmed and be filled;" yet you do not give to him those things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Even so, by itself, Emunah without works is dead. 18 For a man may say, "You have Emunah and I have works;" show me your Emunah without your works, and I will show you my Emunah by my works. 19 You believe that there is one Elohim; you do well. The demons also believe, and they tremble. 20 Would you know, O weak man, that Emunah without works is dead? 21 Was not our father Avraham justified by works, when he raised Yitz'khak his son upon the altar? 22 You can see how his Emunah helped his works, and how by works his Emunah was made perfect. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which said, "Avraham trusted Elohim, and it was accounted to him for tzedaka;" and he was called the Friend of Elohim. 24 You see then how a man by works becomes righteous, and not by Emunah only.

Luka Chapter 2
1 And it happened in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus to take a census of all the people in his empire. 2 This first census took place during the governorship of Quirinius in Surya. 3 And every man went to be registered in his own city. 4 Yosef also went up from Natzrat, a city of the Galil, to Y'hudah, to the city of David, which is called Beit Lekhem; because he was of the house and family of David, 5 with his betrothed, Miryam, while she was with child, that they might be registered there. 6 And it came to pass while they were there that her days to be delivered were fulfilled. 7 And she gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped Him in strips of cloth and laid Him in a sukka*, because there was no room for them for lodging. 8 Now there were shepherds in that region where they were staying, and they were watching their flocks at night. 9 And behold, a Malakh of Elohim came to them, and the Kavod יהוה shone on them; and they were seized with a great fear.
10 And a Malakh said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you glad tidings of great joy, which will be to the entire world. 11 For this day is born to you in the city of David, a Moshi'ah, who is יהוה HaMashi'akh. And 12 this is a sign for you: you will find the babe wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a sukka.” 13And suddenly there appeared with the Malakh a host of heaven, praising Elohim and saying, 14 “Glory to Elohim in the highest, and on earth Shalom, and good hope for the sons of men.” 15 And it came to pass when the Malakhim departed from them and went to Heaven, that the shepherds spoke to one another, saying, “Let us go to Beit Lekhem and see this thing that has happened as יהוה has shown to us.” 16 And they came hurriedly, and found Miryam and Yosef and the babe at rest in the sukka. 17 When they had seen, they made known the word which was spoken to them concerning the boy. 18 And all who heard it were amazed at the things which were spoken by the shepherds. 19 But Miryam treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising Elohim for all that they had seen and heard, as it was spoken to them.
21 And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the child, His Name was called Yeshua; for He was named by the Malakh before he was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days for their purification were fulfilled, according to the Torah of Moshe, they brought Him up to Yerushalayim to present Him to יהוה , as 23 it is written in the Torah of יהוה , “Every male that opens the womb shall be called "Kadosh to יהוה ”, and 24 to offer a sacrifice, as it is commanded in the Torah of יהוה , “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
25 Now there was a man in Yerushalayim whose name was Shimon; and this man was pious and righteous, waiting for the consolation of Yisra'el; and The Ru'akh HaKodesh was upon him. 26 And it was said to him by The Ru'akh HaKodesh that he would not see death until he saw the Mashi'akh of יהוה . This 27 man was led by HaRu'akh to the Heikhal; and when the parents brought in the boy Yeshua to do for Him according to what is commanded in the Torah, 28 he received Him in his arms, and blessed Elohim, and said, 29 “Now dismiss Your servant, O My Adon, in shalom, according to Your word; 30 for behold, my eyes have already seen Your mercies, 31 which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, 32 a light for a revelation to the Goyim and a glory to Your people Yisra'el.” 33 And Yosef and Yeshua’s mother marveled about these things which were spoken concerning Him. 34 And Shimon blessed them, and said to Miryam, His mother, “Behold, this one is appointed for the fall and for the rise of many in Yisra'el, and for a sign of dispute; 35 and a sword will pierce through your own soul, so that the thoughts of the hearts of many may be revealed.” 36 And Khanah, a Nevi'ah, the daughter of Peni-El, of the tribe of Asher, was of a great age; and she had lived seven years with her husband from the days of her virginity. 37 Then she became a widow for about eighty-four years, and she never left the Heikhal, and with fasting and prayer she worshipped day and night. 38 She also stood up at that hour and gave thanks to יהוה , and spoke concerning Him to every man who was looking forward to the redemption of Yerushalayim.
