Teshuvah

The 40 Days of Teshuvah (“Return”) began Thursday evening Aug 17th and continues up to and including Yom HaKippurim [The Day of Atonements]. It is a time to return to יהוה through repentance for our sins. Sin against יהוה may be atoned for through confession and a request for forgiveness. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness through the blood of יהוה Yeshua HaMashi’akh who has cleansed our sins. [Yokhanan Alef (1st John) Chapter 1; Ivrim (Hebrews) Chapter 1]

Sin committed against another person should ideally be confessed to the person whom we have wronged when we can to put the wrong right and to ask for forgiveness. [Matti 5:23-24] If you feel someone has sinned against you, you should try to go to them personally to attempt to reconcile [Matti 18:15]. The person wronged is under no obligation to grant forgiveness, however, failure to do so after repeated requests is regarded as a sin in itself. Once one has confessed and requested forgiveness from יהוה we need to make a commitment to not repeat the confessed sin.

Daniel Chapter 9
4 And I prayed unto יהוה my Elohim, and made confession, and said, "O Adonai, the great and awful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with them that love You and keep Your mitzvot, 5 we have sinned, and have dealt iniquitously, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, and have turned aside from Your mitzvot and from Your ordinances; 6 neither have we hearkened unto Your servants the Nevi'im, that spoke in Your Name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7 Unto You, O Adonai, belongs tzedaka, but unto us shame of face, as at this day; to the men of Yehudah, and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and unto all Yisra'el, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries where You have driven them, because they dealt treacherously with You. 8 O יהוה , to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. 9 To Adonai Eloheinu belongs mercies and forgivenesses; for we have rebelled against Him; 10 neither have we hearkened to the voice of יהוה our Elohim, to walk in His instructions, which He set before us by His servants the Nevi'im. 11 Yes, all Yisra'el has transgressed Your Torah, and has turned aside, so as not to hearken to Your voice; and so there have been poured out upon us the curse and the oath that is written in the Torah of Moshe the servant of Elohim; for we have sinned against Him. 12 And He has confirmed His D'var, which He spoke against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil; so that under the whole heaven has not been done as has been done upon Yerushalayim. 13 As it is written in the Torah of Moshe, all this evil is come upon us; yet have we not entreated the favor of יהוה our Elohim, that we might turn from our iniquities, and have discernment in Your truth. 14 And so יהוה has watched over the evil, and brought it upon us; for יהוה our Elohim is righteous in all His works which He has done, and we have not hearkened to His voice. 15 And now, O Adonai Elohim, that has brought Your people forth out of the land of Mitzrayim with a mighty hand, and has gotten renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly. 16 O Adonai, according to all Your tzedaka, let Your anger and Your fury, I pray, be turned away from Your city Yerushalayim, Your Har Kodesh; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Yerushalayim and Your people are become a reproach to all that are about us. 17 Now therefore, O our Elohim, hearken unto the prayer of Your servant, and to his supplications, and cause Your face to shine upon Your Mikdash that is desolate, for Adonai’s sake. 18 O my Elohim, incline Your ear, and hear; open Your eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city upon which Your Name is called; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our tzedaka, but because of Your great mercies. 19 O Adonai, hear, O Adonai, forgive, O Adonai, attend and do, defer not; for Your own sake, O my Elohim, because Your Name is called upon Your city and Your people."

Yekhezkel Chapter 33
1 And the D'var יהוה came unto me, saying, 2 "Ben Adam, speak to the children of your people, and say unto them, 'When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman; 3 if, when he sees the sword come upon the land, he blasts the shofar, and warns the people; 4 then whoever hears the voice of the shofar, and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head; 5 he heard the voice of the shofar, and did not take warning, his blood shall be upon him; whereas if he had taken warning, he would have delivered his soul. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword come, and does not blast the shofar, and the people are not warned, and the sword does come, and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity, but his
blood will I require at the watchman's hand.'"
7 "So you, Ben Adam, I have set you as a watchman unto Beit Yisra'el; therefore, when you shall hear a word at My mouth, warn them from Me. 8 When I say unto the wicked, 'O wicked man, you shall surely die', and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at your hand. 9 Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, and he turns not from his way, he shall die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul."
10 "Therefore, O Ben Adam, say unto Beit Yisra'el, 'Thus you shall speak, saying, 'Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we pine away in them; how then can we live?'' 11 Say unto them, 'As I live, says Adonai יהוה , I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turns from his way and lives; turn! Turn from your evil ways; for why will you die, O Beit Yisra'el?'"
12 "And you, Ben Adam, say unto the children of your people, 'The righteousness of the Tzadik shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not stumble thereby in the day that he turns from his wickedness; neither shall he that is righteous be able to live thereby in the day that he sins.
13 When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live; if he trusts in his righteousness, and commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered; but for his iniquity that he has committed, for it shall he die.
14 Again, when I say unto the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; if he turns from his sin, and does justice and tzedaka: 15 if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back that which he had taken by robbery, walks in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die. 16 None of his sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him; he has done justice and tzedaka; he shall surely live.
17 Yet the children of your people say, 'Derekh Adonai is not equal;' but as for them, their way is not equal. 18 When the Tzadik turns from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall even die thereby. 19 And when the wicked turns from his wickedness, and does justice and tzedaka, he shall live thereby. 20 Yet you say, 'Derekh Adonai is not equal'. O Beit Yisra'el, I will judge you, every one, after his ways.'"

KETUVIM

Tehillah 27
1 By David. יהוה is my light and my Salvation; whom shall I fear? יהוה is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evil-doers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise up against me, even then will I be confident.
4 One thing have I asked of יהוה , that will I seek after: that I may dwell in Beit יהוה all the days of my life, to behold the kindness of יהוה , and to visit early in His Heikhal.
5 For He conceals me in His Sukka in the day of evil; He hides me in the covert of His Ohel; He lifts me up upon a Rock.
6 And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; and I will offer in His Ohel sacrifices with a blast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises unto יהוה .
7 Hear, O יהוה , when I call with my voice, and be gracious unto me, and answer me.
8 In Your behalf my heart has said, "Seek My face"; Your face, O יהוה , will I seek.
9 Hide not Your face from me; put not Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; cast me not off, neither forsake me, O Elohim of my Salvation.
10 For though my father and my mother have forsaken me, יהוה will take me up.
11 Teach me Your Derekh, O יהוה ; and lead me in an even path, because of them that lie in wait for me.
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out violence.
13 If I had not believed to look upon the goodness of יהוה in the land of the living!
14 Wait for יהוה ; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for יהוה .

Yokhanan Alef (1st John) Chapter 1
1 He who was from the beginning, the one whom we have heard, and have seen with our eyes, have looked upon, and have touched with our hands, we declare to you is D’var HaKhayim. 2 For the life was manifested, and we have seen it and bear witness to it, and declare to you eternal life, which was with HaAv and was revealed to us; 3 it is that which we have seen and heard that we declare to you, so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with HaAv, and with His Son, Yeshua HaMashi'akh.
4 And these things we write to you that our joy in you may be complete. 5 This then is HaB'sorah which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that Elohim is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not follow the truth; 7 but if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Yeshua, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all our iniquity. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His D’var is not in us.

Ivrim (Hebrews) Chapter 1
1 From of old Elohim spoke to our fathers by the Nevi'im in many forms and in
many ways; and in these Akharit HaYamim He has spoken to us by His Son, 2 whom He has appointed as heir of all things, and by whom also He made the worlds; 3 for He is the brightness of His Kavod, and the express image of His Nature, upholding all things by the power of His Word; and when He had, through His Nature, cleansed our sins, then He sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
4 And He is altogether greater than the Malakhim, just as the Name He has inherited is a more excellent Name than theirs. 5 For to which of the Malakhim has Elohim at any time said, "You are my Son, this day have I fathered you?" And again, "I will be as a Father to him, and He shall be to me as a Son?" 6 And again, when He brought the firstborn into the world, He said, "Let all the Malakhim of Elohim
worship Him." 7 And of the Malakhim He said thus, "Who makes His Malakhim spirits; His ministers a flaming fire." 8 But of HaBen He said, "Your throne, O Elohim, is forever and ever; the scepter of Your Malkhut is a righteous scepter. 9 You have loved tzedaka and hated iniquity; therefore, Elohim, even Your Elohim, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than your fellows. 10 And from the very beginning You have laid the foundations of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Your
hands; 11 they shall pass away; but You endure; and they all shall wear out like a garment; 12 and as a cloak You shall fold them up, and they shall be changed; but You are the same, and Your years shall never end." 13 For to which of the Malakhim has He at any time said, "Sit at my right hand, until I make Your enemies the stool under Your feet?" 14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth in the service of those who shall inherit life everlasting?

Matti Chapter 5
23 If it should happen therefore that while you are presenting your offering upon the Mizbe'akh, and right there you remember that your brother has any grievance against you, 24 leave your offering there upon the Mizbe'akh, and first go and reconcile with your brother, and then come back and present your offering.
